If I had an emu feather................

Teachers,

Every year Red Oak Farm sponsors a writing contest for 9th Grade Students.  It is open to residents of the United States and entrants must have a teacher sponsor.  Homeschoolers are welcome!

First, read the privacy statement

Second, have your students read all about emu feathers here, here and here.

Rules:

  1. The title of the essay should be "If I had an Emu Feather"
  2. The essay should be between 100 and 125 words long.
  3. The essay should be submitted by the teacher in the body of the email.  Attachments will not be opened or accepted as entries. 
  4. The students name and age, school name, teacher name & class should be listed first, then the title and then the essay. 

    Example:
    John Brown (age __)
    Trezevant High School
    Miss Joyce Argyle
    Grade 9
    If I had an Emu Feather
     
  5. Entries should be mailed individually by the teacher to myrac@redoakfarm.com with the subject 'emu feather contest' in the subject line.
  6. Entries must be emailed by midnight CST April 10, 2009.  You should receive verification of entry receipt within 24 hours.
  7. Winners will be notified by May 1st and officially announced during National Emu Week.  A list of winners will be posted on this website.

Prizes:

First, second and third prizes of emu feathers will be awarded in each category group. 

Judging Info:  Judging will be based on both content (60%) and technical skill (40%).  Technical skill means spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Privacy Statement:  We will not keep any of the email addresses, nor will we sell them.  They will not be used in any way other than to contact the winners through their teachers.  Winners names will be released to the press along with the name of their school.  Publication of the winning essays may occur in agricultural based magazines or online websites.
